A Womam Foreign Prime Minister in the Middle East

I just find this prospect some what amusing. I wonder what the Muslim extremists will say if this goes through.

Sheryl Crow thinks we should us less toilet paper

http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/entertainment/6583067.stm

Hmmmm, we could do that. I'll bet if everyone did that, the toilet paper manufacturers wouldn't even notice.

Creative Problem Solving with Mosquitoes

You have to give these scientists credit. They came up with a good idea to solve this problem. I don't know if it will work, but it has the makings of a great idea.

The soothing sounds of... crotches??

Here are two interesting articles I found today...

One on men's crotches (SFW), it's about a study using eye-tracking. I'd like to hear your opinions on this one.
http://www.kottke.org/07/03/men-look-at-crotches#

Here's one more my cup-o-tea. I couldn't find the actual paper this guy was talking about. I didn't even know there was a theory out there that suggested that your nerves transmit sound waves rather than electrical pulses. I think it's hooey, but does he raise a good point about the heat generation?

Women and Men

These two articles just go to show, when people try to find out something. They find out what they set out to find, not what's really out there.

Free Courses Online

I know Behn and I were talking about this a few days ago.

http://www.ocwconsortium.org/index.html

The link takes you to a website listing a whole bunches and bunches of free online courses. I haven't actually gone through any, but I think it's basically just published curriculum (not a formal course). However, I believe MIT has published it's "entire" curriculum online. It could be worth noting/bookmarking.

Bye Warren Buffet

In case anyone is insterested in financial news. Warren Buffet is looking for a successor. I'm thinking about applying for the position. I'm currently fabricating one hell of a resume to send it.

http://www.chron.com/disp/story.mpl/ap/tx/4571150.html

I heard about this on NPR then looked up an article so I could share this with you guys. I thought I used a lot of energy, but I guess I have a ways to go before I catch up with this guy.

Actually, here is another good one.

Decent article on Somalia situation

This is a pretty good overview of the current situation in Somalia. Sometimes I wonder if anyone is really trying to help out countries like this on, or Isreal and the Palestinians, or Kosovo(sp). I suspect that for the most part politicains throw some money at the group they think will win for a photo op to say "Hey, look, I helped bring peace to this nation."

In case you didn't feel safe before

Don't worry, no one has access to nuclear materials. Especially not 50 year old Russias who deal in fish and sausage.

So... if they catch one, how many do they not catch? Traditionally that's the way it works right? If you catch one, there have to be like, a whole bunch more who are smarter and better at it, right?

Florida Insurance Law

I saw a couple of articles on this, but I couldn't find one I liked enough to post. I know that you guys probably feel the same way as I do about insuring people in places like Florida. So I'm just throwing this out here in case someone finds a good article I'd be interested in reading this to try and figure out what's going on there. It appears to be a local law, so probably no matter what happens it will have litte affect on our tax dollars.

Don't lose your head

Continuing on the science theme.

Here's an interesting article I found today. Remember the lady from France who had a face transplant. Seems that head transplants may be possible. Some of the descriptions should like they're out of a sci-fi/horror movie. All I have to say is, I want to see this documentary.

Rest In Peace

Sunday, January 14, 2007

I found this interesting site on casualties in Iraqi. I was looking because it seems that casualties have been down lately. There is a plot of fatalities by month. This month is on track to have the lowest US fatalities since Feb of 04. However, this past Dec. and Oct. were the third and fifth worse respectively. It is interesting that we do not see any news reports of lower casualty rates in Iraqi recently, still Jan. is young. I wonder if news agencies will do less reporting on casualties until the next election. By doing this voters will not become accustom to the casualties and the reports will have more impact on the election. I also wonder of Bush knows that Iraq is turning around so he is changing generals and putting in more troops in order to claim credit for the victory. For all politicians it is easier to be devious than to provide good leadership. This is one reason that politicians focus on making their foes look bad and not on providing good leadership.

Raid on Iranian Embassy

This is an interesting move. Perhaps it is part of a political initiative to place more of the blame for problems in Iraq on Iran and Syria. That seems like it would be a pretty good plan, especially considering the political climate, I wonder if the administration will hype up what they "find".

WWIII?

So, I'm not sure if anyone is even reading this blog anymore, but I thought this warranted posting. All I have to say is...

Oh crap

This reporters 'sources', and the fact that the information was attained 'last week' but only posted today make me question if this story is real or just hype. Either way, this line made me laugh.

"The Israelis believe that Iran’s retaliation would be constrained by fear of a second strike if it were to launch its Shehab-3 ballistic missiles at Israel."

Sure... wanna bet?

Darfur

I've seen similar stories about the genocide in Darfur in the news recently.

How much do you guys know about this?

Iran's "peaceful" nuclear energy program

I saw this article on digg today.

Iran's itching to use The Bomb

I don't think this is a huge surprise to anyone. I'm curious to see if our almighty terror of terror commander in chief even acknowledges this press conference. I guess it depends more on if he's told about it.
